Following the appearance of former President Bill Clinton at the Toronto AIDS 2006 International Conference and his passionate plea for resources to combat HIV/AIDS in Africa, we learn Senator Hilary Clinton is alone in opposing a Senate bill to combat AIDS in the USA.
Sen Clinton is upset that the renewal of the Ryan Act, which funds AIDS domestic services, would shift resources from New York State to other states, especially in the south, and has turned debate of the bill into a white vs black American issue. Maybe the original act was informed by the early rise of AIDS in gay males, in disproportionate numbers, in New York and San Francisco.
With the infection spreading among the total population, it may not be reasonable that resources need to be redistributed: just don't tell that to a US senator fighting for his/her state. But, while Bill Clinton plays his support for black Americans and Africans to the maximum, you have to wonder what he and Hilary talk about over breakfast. Assuming they dine together occasionally.
