is there something i'm missing?

Last evening, the instant pundits were tripping over each other in a rush to proclaim that the Québec election results exceeded the Prime Minister’s wildest dreams and that the stage is set for a spring election and a CPC majority government.

Hmmm... how many days ago was it that these same wise men were congratulating the PM for finding nearly $2.3 billion dollars to give Jean Charest and the Québec Liberal government to ensure the election of a federalist party.

And what was the result? Over 59% of Québecers voted for a party advocating for a sovereign or autonomous Québec. Federalist support crashed to 33%.

Now the federal government, having spent exorbitantly to win favour in Québec is facing a minority government in the province in which Mario Dumont and the ADQ will be sharks circling the bleeding corpse of the LPQ pressing for “more”. And the CPC’s voter base is increasingly disappointed with the absence of tax cuts and the continuation of the long-standing habit of federal governments to dump appeasement money in Québec.

Now tell me again why the PM os so happy.
