To counter the latest round of blisteringly negative ads from Canada’s new governing party, Liberal Youth have produced their own(albeit only available on the ‘net because Liberals are not awash in cash as are the neoCons. My favourite is this one but all three can be viewed here. The kids show they can ingrain their message with a sense of humour and still get their point across. It’s essentially negative, just like the CPC ads, but it’s not nearly so nasty. And maybe it’s a lot more convincing. For sure Apple Inc does a lot of research for every advertisement that gets to air and the continuance of the “I’m a Mac” series is evidence of their effectiveness. And less cynics accuse the Young Liberals of a lack of originality (or dare we say plagiarism) the parody is as much the message as is the content. Macs and PCs are different. Liberals and Conservatives are different. Both help us achieve our goals, but most of the western world has been convinced it will be more getting there with a Mac - and maybe with a Liberal government. Judging by a glance around the coffee shop I am writing this in, PCs represent work, Macs represent the life we aspire to. Not a bad way to present your message.
Meanwhile, let the CPC burn through its cash. It can’t spend it all on the next campaign anyway and better for Canadians that the image of a nasty vindictive bunch of characters who take every opportunity to bash their opposition be reinforced at every opportunity.
