The Toronto Star on Saturday carried two rather nice photographs of Stéphane Dion; the front page had him in full colour, shot through a window at Stornoway, working on his “alternate throne speech”, the second picture, inside with the Star’s copy of the essay, had him working at his desk at Stornoway. All nice lighting and flattering imagery suggesting a thoughtful and hard working leader putting his own work into a project and not just vetting documents prepared by staff for him to approve as his own. Biographical profiles I have read about Dion indicate this is the way he works – the academic comes out – when it’s crunch time, he sits down with a work processor and starts writing.
One small thing, though, about the photos; the leather satchel on the desk is genuine and pure Dion. I wonder, when he is PM, will a body guard carry the satchel or will it still be slung over his shoulder. But, the notebook computer – a Dell! Where are image counsellors? The brand reeks of mediocrity, lowest tender, take what’s left in the office store room. It’s not the image for a leader. It’s a bleeping PC.
Stéphane, you are a perfectionist, you are a leader, you don’t accept things as they are – you demand that they be made better, you are young, you are hip. You definitely are not a PC. Stéphane - GET A MAC!
