Hillary Clinton, once again, has demonstrated her ability to distort the truth and, ah, to lie shamelessly.
Desperately needing to find a faint hope of winning the Democratic Party presidential nomination, she is boasting she scored a double-digit victory in the primary popular vote in Pennsylvania, Tuesday past. Maybe she thinks 9.3% is double digit. Most people do not. Many of her staunchest supporters agreed before Tuesday that she needed a minimum of 10% to stay in the race. Well 9.3 is not 10 (Clinton is benefiting from a cohort of lazy media that is rounding 9.3 UP to 10. Whatever happened to it having to be at at least .5 to round up?)
Clinton still trails Obama by over 200 committed-delegates to the nomination convention and has little or no hope of catching up in the remaining primaries. Due to the complex delegate system in Pennsylvania, Clinton made no significant gains despite her “win”.
Clinton is also claiming a lead in the popular vote. It’s a feat she can claim only if she counts votes in Florida and Michigan which did not have primaries in 2008. Because of scurrilous activities by local party officials in those states, the national party suspended the primaries. Clinton left her name on the ballot in both states (the only name in Michigan) and sent out messages that voters in those states deserved to be heard. Obama respected the rules. Now Clinton claims victory in a kind of one-candidate election that would have made Stalin or Mao proud.
Along with her lies over her foreign policy experience and accomplishments in the Clinton administration, it is a pattern of untruths and deception. At least it is something she can honestly claimed to have learned from Bill. When it is all over for her maybe Stephen Harper will hire her as a CPC consultant.
