Alerted by The Advocate to comments from a senior McDonald's executive that this ad wouldn't be aired in the USA because of different cultural values (empathy for gay teens?). I suspect the radical-right would keep it off the air in Canada even though so often we consider ourselves more enlightened than our southern neighbour.
The ad touched me in a couple of ways. First, there is the joy in realising that national populations exist where an ad like this can be expected to benefit, not harm, the reputation of a "family oriented" corporation. Then there is the pain displayed on the teen's face that he is still so isolated from someone so close to him.
Come as you are. Come out. Come to McDonald's, where they care enough about gay teens to air this ad. It will make me feel just a bit better the next time I wolf down a Quarter-Pounder Meal Deal.
