The Liberal Party has announced the keynote speaker for its upcoming policy, leadership and renewal convention and it’s none other than the former governor of Vermont and failed presidential candidate, Howard Dean. While Dean, now chair of the Democratic National Committee in the USA, may have something to tell Liberals about grassroots organising (at which he was particularly successful), surely the Liberals could have found a Canadian to talk about consumer-level politics in the early 21st century. And this comes only weeks after the Ontario Liberal Party hired Bill Clinton campaign organiser James Carville to speak at its provincial annual meeting.
Liberals and pundits alike have delighted in drawing attention to USA and DC-leaning Conservatives. Canadians need a Carolyn Parish quote to demonstrate just how a dumb move this is.
