i could not have made this up

Torontonians were hardly surprised to read on New Year’s Eve that an armed thug had hijacked a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus, at gunpoint, and forced the operator to drive around the city’s downtown for an hour before letting him go free.

After a few weeks of investigation, Toronto police have determined it was all a hoax and charged the operator. It seems this TTC driver had a few errands to run and his work schedule got in the way. Unfortunately for him, things did not turn out so well as they did for the Toronto fire fighters who had their fire truck stolen while they were shopping for renovation materials at Home Depot. I guess this is one driver who will not be happy about the initiative to install video security cameras and GPS tracking on every bus.

Since this is Toronto and the TTC union is almost as powerful as unions come, the driver will almost certainly remain on full pay until his case comes to trial and, if convicted, get a few days suspension before returning to work with his seniority intact.
