The referendum on electoral reform in Ontario has demonstrated that it is the leftists and minor parties who want some form of proportional voting. So it was refreshing to read this morning (John Ibbitson in The Globe and Mail) that California Republicans are pushing for electoral reform which would allocate the state’s Presidential Electoral College votes according to how each congressional district votes. Democrats currently benefit by the winner take all popular vote allocation of California's electoral college vote. If the votes were divvied up according to how each district votes, Republicans would probably enjoy 20 or more College votes and it would be very difficult for Democrats to win The White House. Nice to see the lefties arguing the merits of the status quo.
