support for MMP dropping

There is good news in the latest Strategic Counsel poll on Ontario’s proposed electoral reform. The Globe and Mail reports that voter awareness of the referendum issue and the Citizens’ Assembly recommendation for mixed member proportional (MMP) voting has increased significantly in the month leading up to the election, suggesting the “get informed” campaigns waged by Elections Ontario and the “yes” and “no” supporters has had the desired affect. Three quarters of voters claim to know about the proposed new system.

Most importantly, as understanding of the proposed voting system has in increased, support has decreased. Support for MMP, according to The Strategic Counsel has fallen to 32% provincially. This is indeed good news.
