For weeks Torontonians, and others in cities around the world, have been inconvenienced by mobs of Tamils advocating for the Canadian (or their respective national) government to intervene in the civil war in Sri Lanka. The limited access we have to reports from the region suggest that thousands of civilians are being displaced, injured and killed by the civil war. It is a shameful human tragedy, as are all civil wars, but there is little outsiders can do about it.
No doubt, the terrorist army (so classified by the United Nations and dozens of governments) would turn as quickly on “peacekeepers” as it does on the women and children it holds hostage on the last few square kilometres of land it holds. Still the “peace advocate” in Toronto carry the terrorists’ flag proudly and high. It’s no surprise since Toronto was once a primary source of funds for the terrorists; funds raised by intimidation and extortion in Canada and used to buy arms to continue the civil war. No surprise, either, that facing a round-up by Canadian police to end their disruptions, the demonstrators brought women and children to the front lines. Women and children who the police would have to climb over to arrest the illegal demonstrators. Could it be a tactic they learned from the terrorists whose flag they carry.
The message concerned Canadians should be sending, the message the demonstrators need to hear, is to the terrorists to surrender. When the terrorists accept the reality that their cause is doomed, release their hostages and hold up a white flag, then the international community can move in and provide the medical care, food and shelter Sri Lanka deserves. The demonstrators in Toronto need to go home and expend their energy getting this message across to the terrorists - it’s over, it’s finished, surrender and save the children. Or is it maybe that the Toronto demonstrators see themselves as the Tamils in exile, a nascent force, who will continue to raise money to keep the fight going, even as the Sri Lankan government takes control of the entire nation? What if this isn’t about peace-making at all?
Enough is enough ad it’s time for Canadian authorities to act.
