A recent rash of suicides has prompted a campaign among those who want to support gay and lesbian youth to create videos telling these youth "it get's better". Suicides resulting from despair over the abuse heaped on young people because they are "different" are not new but there does seem to have been something of a dramatic increase of late.
Those of us who have come through the negativity, survived and emerged to enjoy happy and rich lives, owe it to the next generation to support them to the best of our abilities and so it is that I applaud those who are making these videos.
There are literally hundreds of them out there. This one made by Google employees is one of the finest. It speaks to youth, but it also speaks to their families, their schools and their friends who will maybe be more understanding and supportive having heard what it's like to be young and gay or lesbian. It's well worth watching.
