Or make that four days. Last Wednesday and Thursday, the prime minister was arguing that the Canadian economy is strong, that the Canadian banking system is not like the American and that there is no need for the Liberal Party’s “first 30-days” plan.
This morning’s headline: “Conservative Leader Stephen Harper said he has plans to help Canada's banking and lending system if efforts to cope with the U.S.-led financial meltdown spills over heavily into this country.” OK so there is an “if” in there, but maybe, just maybe, the CPC is recognising that blandly stating “the economy is sound” is convincing only to its die-hard partisans and, if the dramatic slide in CPC support is to be slowed, the prime minister, at least, must appear to care.
