Canwest News Service is reporting this morning that, despite his pledge to never appoint Senators who were not elected, Stephen Harper will fill the 18 vacancies in the Senate before Christmas and just-in-case his government is replaced by a progressive coalition early next year. Harper came to office with an aura of a politician of conviction. In office, he has broken his promises left (there were some) right (there were lots) and centre (a few). Michael Ignatieff puts it well; it’s time for this prime minister to start telling Canadians the truth.
